Motorcycle Wreck
Motorcycles have grown in popularity in recent years in the United States, and with that growth has come an increase in motorcycle accidents.
Depending on the conditions, motorcycles can be both safer and more hazardous than vehicles or trucks.
They are more harmful in general because they are more difficult to manage and provide less protection.
They do, however, have greater mobility than a vehicle or truck in order to escape a collision.
Motorcycles are much like any other car or truck when it comes to the types and causes of accidents.
Motorcycle riders can be involved in accidents due to intoxication, distraction, irresponsible driving, lack of visibility, and poor road conditions.
Unfortunately, because motorcycles only have two wheels, many of them have more severe implications for motorcyclists than other vehicles.
Furthermore, because motorbikes are smaller than other vehicles, other drivers sometimes have difficulty seeing them.
They only have one headlight or taillight, significantly reducing their visibility.
Because motorcycles take up less space on the road and are generally shorter than a vehicle or truck, they might more easily be in another automobile's blind area.
Because motorcycles only have two wheels and rely on balance to keep upright, they are more vulnerable to changes in road conditions than their four-wheeled counterparts.
Wet roads, for example, can be deadly for a motorbike while being only annoying for a vehicle or truck.
Poor road maintenance, such as potholes, may make motorbikes worse since if one wheel strikes a hole, the other will almost certainly hit it as well—there will be no wheel that is unaffected.
When car or truck drivers have accidents, they often have a very good chance of survival because of the incredibly advanced safety technology that goes into the production of those vehicles.
From seat belts to the steel frame roll cages that many cars now have, they are designed for safety.
Motorcycles, on the other hand, have no such safety equipment.
There is no protection between the rider and the road or another car, no frame, usually no seat belts, and the rider must wear a helmet at all times for his ultimate safety. The motorcycle rider is at a much higher risk of being thrown from his vehicle than a passenger in a car or truck.
