After publicly protesting the invasion of Ukraine on Russian state television, journalist Marina Ovsyannikova has been released while paying a fine over the incident.

Ovsyannikova was detained after storming the set of one of Russia's most popular news programs, with a poster reading in Russian: "stop the war, don't believe the propaganda, they are lying to you here."

This was despite the increased risk of going to prison, or worse, in a country that just legislated even tighter restrictions on journalists and freedom of expression. As Ross Lord explains, she's not backing down, despite the growing risks of her anti-war messaging.
