There is a nice custom in Zagreb called "špica" (pronounced as "shpitza"). It implies spending leisurely Saturday morning in the city center. A cup of coffee in a cafe is a must, most often with friends or family. Then a quick shopping for the next week's groceries in the Zagreb's most popular farmers market Dolac, easy stroll around city center, you'll probably run into someone you haven't seen for ages, some window shopping... And sometimes you stumble into some interesting street happening like patrol of Cravat Regiment - a guard of honor that represents The Croats (also known as Cravats), 17th century light cavalry units which fought in The Thirty Years War. An interesting fact is that it was them who actually invented the necktie. The Croats wore scarves around their necks, probably for hygienic purposes and during the War came in contact with The French who were impressed by their outfit and soon adopted the scarf, naming it after The Croats (French: cravate). This new article of clothing soon started a fashion craze in Europe, both men and women wore pieces of fabric around their necks and over the years it evolved into the modern-day necktie.
