This story of the spirit world’s creation is an important story for modern civilisation. Because modern people scoff at any notion of spiritual forces playing a creative role in the material world, they become weak and docile toward the impulses of evil. Fear then is able to reign over their bodies and minds just as Lucifer seized control over Heaven in this story. This story teaches us not only the important role of freedom but also of oppositional forces in the development of our courage, wisdom, and personal creativity. Without Lucifer, it’s impossible to know God. We cannot develop character in a vacuum. It’s through the forces of fear and destruction that we even materialise at all. In the last days, just as in the beginning, it will be important for us to carry the armour and shield of Michael if our hearts are not to fail us. It’s impossible to carry his shield, however, when we’re not even aware of the spiritual forces we’re fighting against.
