Albert Bourla: "the mRNA was a technology that had never delivered a single product. No vaccine, no other drug. I was surprised when they suggested that this was the way to go. I asked them to justify. They were very, very convinced that this was the right way to go. They felt that the two years of mRNA warfare since 2018 to develop a flu vaccine made them believe that the technology was mature enough and that we were on the verge of delivering a product. So they convinced me. I went with my gut that they know what they were saying and we made that tough decision at that point."
