What the ancient sacrifices actually mean in relation to His own sacrifice

In modern Christian teaching, the study of Leviticus has been dismissed as unnecessary. Why? Because the death of the Messiah negated the need for sacrifices. But we sometimes forget that the disciples continued to offer sacrifices for the rest of their lives after the death and resurrection of Yeshua. But if we say that Yeshua died on the cross for us, then we should also study what the ancient sacrifices actually mean in relation to His own sacrifice.
Why were sacrifices even necessary? To answer that question, we have to go back to the previous book of Exodus.
