Six Reasons for Christian Giving

2 Corinthians 8:1-15

1. There is a need
• Supply what they need so they can supply what you need
2. There are examples to learn from.
• Gave during most severe trials, beyond their ability, voluntarily, they gave first

3. To excel in giving is a biblical character quality.
• Paul says Corinth excelled in faith, speech, knowledge, complete earnestness, and love.
• Impressive list, but what Paul calls “grace of giving” must be added.
• Grace: “Unmerited favor”
4. Jesus has set the example for us.
• Jesus was rich and, for the sake of us, became poor.
• Psalms 24:8, Philippians 2:7, 2 Cor. 8:8
5. Finish your called work to the best of your ability.
• It is one thing to be eager to start a project. It is another to have steadfast endurance to complete what you started.
• Give and work with what you have at your disposal: talents, abilities, giftings.
6. God’s supply will always be sufficient.
• Paul end with Exodus 16:18: The supply of manna to the Israelites.
