In Ukraine: Ukraine’s president warned Saturday of a “new stage of terror” by Russian forces in Ukraine, after what he said was the kidnapping of a mayor in the south of the country as well as a fresh round of airstrikes on the outskirts of the capital.

Cruise missiles slammed into an airport south of Kyiv early Saturday, setting fire to an oil terminal and an ammunition depot, authorities said. Russian strikes also hit suburbs to the east and west, while a drone crashed in the center of the city after being shot down, setting fire to a bank, officials said.

In the West: President Biden said the U.S. will move to revoke normal trade relations with Russia, joining Western allies in a coordinated action to further punish Moscow.
The International Committee of the Red Cross described desperate conditions for people in the besieged city of Mariupol that's seen more than a week of shelling and where a Russian air strike this week destroyed a maternity hospital.

“There's no electricity, water and gas supply. Meaning no means for heating," the ICRC said via Twitter citing one of its staff on the ground.

The organization said it was providing shelter to 65 people in Mariupol, including children. Some of the people seeking refuge have brought food, though it isn't clear how long supplies will last, the ICRC said Saturday in a Twitter thread on the conditions there.

Once drinkable water runs out, the ICRC representative said the people there would resort to boiling what water they are collecting to make it potable.

People also are reporting a scarcity of medical supplies, particularly for diabetes and cancer patients, which can't be secured in Mariupol anymore, according to the ICRC account.

"It’s really cold," the ICRC quoted its staff member. "People are getting sick already because of the cold.”
