Will coal make a comeback?
Federal energy officials estimate that coal power plants will generate about 170 billion kilowatt hours more electricity this year, a 22% increase from 2020. Coal's share of the nation's power mix is expected to increase from 20% last year to 24% this year.

Freeport LNG CEO Michael Smith says Europe will likely need to rely on burning coal in the short term in order to meet its energy needs and reduce its reliance on Russian oil. Smith spoke with Bloomberg Television on the sidelines of the CERAWeek conference in Houston, Texas.
