Bio Labs in Ukraine: Tucker Breaks Down Everything You Need to Know

As information about Ukrainian biological research facilities has become available there has been a lot of confusion about what those labs do and who funds them. We know from Senate testimony by State Department Undersecretary of Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, that biological research facilities do exist in Ukraine and that the US Government is worried they could fall into Russian hands. But according to Department of Defense sources, these are part of a threat reduction program that began in 2005.Show more

In an off-camera briefing held the week of March 7th, an unidentified "senior Department of Defense official" said, among other things:
A few key points about the Department of Defense's Cooperative Threat Reduction Program Biological Threat Reduction Program activities in Ukraine this is part of the Department of Defense's Cooperative Threat Reduction Program. Through that program, we have invested approximately $200 million in Ukraine since 2005, supporting 46 Ukrainian labs, health facilities, and diagnostic sites. DOD's CTR program began its biological work with Ukraine to eliminate the remnants of the Soviet Union's illegal biological weapons program left in the Soviet successor states after the USSR fell. There are no DOD bioweapon labs in Ukraine or anywhere else in the world.

So according to DOD sources, the US is NOT funding the production of biological weapons, but is spending money to reduce Soviet Era threats that may yet still remain.
