The moray eel is a nocturnal animal. Moray eels also have mucus like other eels. In some types of Moray, the mucus contains poison. The moray eel has thicker skin with a high density of goblet cells in the epidermis which allows the production of more mucus than other eel species. It has a mutualistic symbiotic relationship with cleaning shrimp. The eels let the prawns clean the remains of food in their mouths so they don't rot.
