Canada's federal Conservative leadership race begins heating up

First, it was Pierre Poilievre. Now his colleague Leslyn Lewis is joining the federal Conservative leadership race.

And the third contender could be Jean Charest, who has a long history in federal and provincial politics for both the Liberals and Tories.

A veteran politician accustomed to tough fights, Charest has nevertheless been out of federal politics for more than two decades. After deciding to stay out of the 2020 leadership race, Charest told reporters that the party had changed since his departure in 1998.
