Why Are Movies So LONG Now?

Movies over the last 10-15 years have gotten longer and longer and there seems to be no end to this. It's now getting to be so bad that Variety is now acknowledging it. How much longer will people tolerate sitting in a Movie Theater for 3+ Hours without an intermission?
