Jennifer Schmid – Firefighter, Pioneer…Hero

Jennifer Schmid is a bad ass. She's broken into two traditionally male dominated industries-working on commercial ships at sea, and firefighting.

While she's broken-down barriers, she's had a wild variety of things happen. During a fire, she had her legs taken out by an exploding car bumper...the story was so impossible. the MythBusters took on the challenge...which led to a recall on bumpers.

Being an Oakland PD Fire Lieutenant wasn't easy enough, she had a part time firefighting gig on an SFFD fireboat. She's also working to engage the traditionally underrepresented groups in an effort to focus them on careers in the first-responder world.
