Raceday dawned dry and reasonably cool after a second straight night of lashing rain, with the Circuit Park Zandvoort still damp as the field appeared for the warm-up at 1:00pm.[3] Fortunately the circuit would be completely dry by the time the session finished, with no major issues emanating from the session to contend with ahead of the 3:00pm start time.[3] Indeed, all 24 cars would be fighting fit as they completed the formation lap, with René Arnoux set to lead the field away from pole.[3]
