After dark she leaves on a journey in pursuit of love
She feels the lust she receives at home is never enough
The man she leaves asleep at home each night
Is the man she feels isn't loving her right

So she ventures out towards a secret rendezvous
Somewhere between the hours of twelve and two
Wrapped in a Persian scarf to conceal her face
There's never anyone around but she wears it just in case

Down the back road towards the alley where it's empty
Taking no chances she already takes plenty
She would have no excuse for being out this time
You're either having an affair or you're committing crime

That's what Mrs Netcher used to say
Making jokes about the sisters coming home from church back in the day
But this is far from any fellowship or prayer meeting she's receiving
It's very deceiving how she often makes plans for the kids in the evening
Just so she can meet him

So they can be together for a few stolen moments down at the depot
He drives the number nineteen bus so that's where she goes
To secretly make arrangements with him for the following night
She always takes the long way around to avoid his wife

Who works in the bakery on the corner of D'Arblay Street during the week
And she'd ask too many questions so it's better if they didn't meet
She still keeps a letter she wrote for him concealed in a make-up case inside her bag
Describing how he makes her feel and all the fun they have

Last week they spent the day at an amusement park
It was out of the area so they went in his car
Now some people would ask me how I know about her secret rendezvous
In such detail and so precise
Well the answer is simple
Trust me I know
She's my wife
