Splicing wires in ultra limited trunk

My Harley Davidson ultra limited has a luggage rack whose legs were damaging the paint on the trunk. I found some spacers that spread the weight of the luggage rack out over twice the space of the legs of the rack. I think it will even prevent the finish from deteriorating any more.
