Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passes away

Acclaimed singer Lata Mangeshkar died at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai on 6 February. She was 92. The singer, widely known as Nightingale of India, was admitted to the hospital on 11 January with Covid 19 and pneumonia.

Lata Mangeshkar, born on 28 September 1929, recorded her first song for film Gajaabhaau in 1943. She recorded songs for more than 1,000 movies and sang more than 30,000 songs in 36 languages. She received highest Indian civil award, the Bharat Ratna, in 2001. She never married.

Two days national mourning has been announced in India."I am anguished beyond words," tweeted Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. "With the death of Lata Mangeshkar the subcontinent has lost one of the truly great singers the world has known," tweeted Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan.
