I wish you could've heard and seen
How much we love you
Instead of the unspoken words
We were all keeping from you
What good are all the accolades
And praise to you now
All the things we didn't say
When you were around
All of the pent up ego and pride
Really burns after the fact
And can't be good for our health
That and knowing the warmth
You gave to our hearts
Now only serves ourself
All the quotes and eulogies
Might make us feel better
But won't make it right
That we show we appreciate you
More in your death
Than we did in life

Unfortunately
No-one alive can tell us
If you'll get the message
That we loved you more than life
Being as final as death is
We were all well aware
We couldn't turn back the times
Yet we wait until its too late
To share with you what's on our minds
We wait until you're late
To tell you how great you are
On stage telling the audience
But never told the star

We're recalling your stories
And applauding you now you're long gone
After we remained silent
Watching you during your swan song
We saw you sailing away like we all will
And whispered so long
Our grand show of appreciation
Gone wrong
If you're watching and listening now
I hope you find it in you to forgive us
The backward
Selfish
Inconsiderate
Careless stream of consciousness that is us
How we value the dead in death
And not the living while they're alive
Will always be with us
The inner shame and self torment
Of knowing the love we had for you
We didn't show enough

Now your days here are gone
And we carry on
And carry the burden
Of what we've done and always do
Miss what we had when it's gone
After withholding our adoration
And all the praise that was due
We seemingly dismiss the thought
That the people we admire won't always be there
Lets give the people we love the chance to see
Feel and smell all their flowers
While they're still here
