Amari Cooper’s time with the Dallas Cowboys might be over. The Cowboys expected to move on from their #1 wide receiver this offseason, with Adam Schefter reporting a release is likely. The Cowboys save $16 million with a Cooper release, but they could have saved a similar figure by restructuring his deal or extending him. The Cowboys have time to work a trade, if they’re able to. But teams know the Cowboys need to make a move: that hurts the trade value and interest.

Dallas Morning News expert reporter Michael Gehlken wrote this before the Schefter report on Cooper: “There are still too many moving pieces to say exactly how the situation will unfold, one person close to the situation cautioned Thursday. It could be Gallup who rejoins Lamb in Dallas. It could be Cooper. At this stage, however, the shared opinion from several sources at the NFL combine is it would be an upset if Cooper returns.”
