What if Americans with European background,could have iconic gangster, based on Pirates 17th century

Just a thought i had, if people wanted to make a European version of crime culture but iconic one.... but it may be a dumb idea. But let me know your views? Crime is obviously bad, but if it were to leave an impression on pop culture. May aswell do it in style.
