Thoughts on Clouds

Mindfulness is about experiencing and accepting the present moment and whatever might arise in each moment--your feelings, your thoughts, your situation without trying to fight it, without trying to get rid of it, and without trying to hold on to it or get involved in it. When you are mindful, you are not trying to change your experiences, you are just simply noticing what is present, without judgement or expectations. By observing your thoughts as if they are clouds in the sky, you can learn something about the nature of your mind: that your thoughts come and go, and you don’t have to react to them, or believe them, or judge them, or get caught up with them. You can just notice them and let them drift by. You learn that the present moment is always changing. Learning to accept the moment just as it is, and to watch each moment come and go, we can release ourselves from suffering.
