Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds delivered the Republicans' response to U.S. President Joe Biden's State of the Union address Tuesday evening, saying it came as a blast from the past with rising inflation, rising crime and a resurgent Russia that made it feel more appropriate for the 1980s than present day.

Reynolds also criticized mask-wearing policies, given some did not wear them in the House of Representatives during the address, questioning Democrats stance on face coverings while having mask mandates in schools.

She criticized Democrats and Biden for their prioritization, claiming they had ignored issues facing Americans or made them worse. She said they were warned spending trillions of dollars would lead to inflation and anti-energy policies would raise gas prices, but they "plowed ahead anyway."

Reynolds also touted that while Republicans may not have the White House, the party is "doing what we can to fill the leadership vacuum."
