Stager ribbon microphones small kit setup
The understanding of how condenser microphones and ribbon microphones can blend together to create a most sort after tone when recording your drums.
Here I've placed a stereo pair of Stager ribbon mics on the left and right sides of the drum set and 2 sure 57's condenser mics in a Y position over the drum set. The drums that I'm using are a 1976 Slingerland vintage snare and a vintage1961 Premiere floor tom that I converted into a 16 by 18 inch bass drum. This was the first time that I recorded using this particular setup.
I have to say I was taken back when I listened back to the recording, it has to me an old style type of sound kind of like the old blue note recordings that I love . I enjoyed the open airy warmth of the drums and tone of the room work well together.
I am excited to lay down some more grooves and see what becomes of them
hope to see you soon ,
Be well
Regards
Michael
