John M advised Ukraine in 2016 not to take the heroic option why?

Ukraine being the hero in the fight between NATO West and China would end up wrecking the Country. He advised Ukraine back in 2015 to make the bad decision of going neutral for the sake of the country. The whole world sympathies with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. For the sake of the nation lift a negotiation flag and turn the battle to terms instead of destruction. Dead heroes don't exist as they are forever gone.
