Questioning Authority: Education & Science - More Misplaced Trust

Introduction and show notes:

Most of us spend our childhood years in school where we are taught ‘facts’ that need to be learned so that we can pass exams. This is called education. We are told that the facts we learn and then regurgitate in those exams, are the result of great works performed by experts in their fields whose views we must simply respect and learn. But there are serious problems with this approach. One of the clues to this, is that we are increasingly discouraged from questioning the work of ‘experts’.

But how can this enable us to make progress? If we cannot examine existing ideas, how can we know if they are still correct? How can we know if they need to be updated or improved or even abandoned because their underlying theories have been found to be flawed?

In today’s conversation, medical doctor specialising in urology Jordan Grant and independent researcher, Dawn Lester will discuss some of the fundamental problems with the ideas on which much of science is based, and show that we need to absolutely reject the notion that we are not allowed to question the experts.
