The flowers are typical yellow pea flowers with red veins, 2–4 cm long petioles. After pollination, the fruit develops into a pod 3–7 cm long, containing 1-4 seeds (light), and the fruit (bulb) is usually hidden in the ground to develop. In the scientific nomenclature of this plant, the part of the name indicating the species property has hypogaea meaning "under the ground" to indicate the characteristic that the fruit is hidden under the ground.
