It will take ‘a lot more’ than Canada-style protests to get Putin out of the Kremlin

James Morrow says a protest movement in Canada couldn’t get Prime Minister Justin Trudeau out of office so it would take “a lot more” to get President Vladimir Putin out of the Kremlin.
His remarks come after protests erupted throughout Russia against Mr Putin’s invasion of Ukraine with reports of more than 1,000 being arrested.
“While it is great to see protests in Russia, it’s great to see that tennis player [Andrey Rublev] writing ‘no war please’ on the camera … there is also an awful lot of support within the Russian community for what Putin is doing,” Mr Morrow said.
“We shouldn’t have any illusions about this – that somehow Putin is despised universally within Russia just as he seems to be despised universally around so much of the rest of the world.
“We do know that within Russia Joseph Stalin is still considered a hero by an awful lot of people, so we do need to be pretty clear-eyed about what we’re dealing with here.”
