"Loving Christ in Loving One Another"
34th in our series the Book of 1 Peter

I. The Source of War - James 4:1-3

A. This explains why nation states go to war - civil government
B. It also explains why fights occur in church - church government

II. The Cure for the Common War - 1 Peter 3:8-9

A. The context - He previously addressed family government, servants (2:18) wives (3:1-6) husbands (3:7)
B. Now he addresses all the saints, those who through faith are trusting Christ as Lord and Savior
1. Be of One Mind
a. Unity of thinking requires we all read from the same sheet of music
b. The Word of God is what must shape our thinking
c. We are to have the mind of Christ - Phil. 2:5
2. Have compassion for one another - walk a mile in another’s shoes - Philippians 2:19-23
3. Love as brothers - the way in which Christ loved us, we are to love one another
a. Christ laid down His life
b. The Agape love of self sacrifice
4. Be tenderhearted - 1 Corinthians 9:19-23
5. Be courteous, that is be humble - recognizing that we are not the center of the universe
6. Do not engage in paybacks, but blessing - 1 Peter 2:21-23
a. Jesus set the standard - He even forgave those who were crucifying Him
b. There is a place for justice by the duly constituted authorities following God’s Law in church and civil governments
