Dooley Wilson – "As Time Goes By" Performed by Gil De La Paz, Bobby Keys & Dino T. Manzella

I performed "As Time Goes By" from Casablanca with Gil De La Paz and Bobby Keys. Gil is someone I have known for a very long time. He came to my studio and recorded a demo with his band in the 1990s. His voice is still as velvety-soft as it ever was. He has great tambour and was completely spot on our entire session - a complete pro.

Bobby is a staple of the Chicago music scene. He has a great upbeat attitude combined with some mad ad-hock skills on the keys and great inflections. Perfect for what we were trying to accomplish.

This was one of the more challenging singing sessions I have ever done because we were not following a specific tempo or instrument. The piano follows the singers. I have to point out that this is completely forign to me!

At the beginning of the video I even joke around with the fact that I have to use my own tempo and not follow Bobby.

These guys were in their element, whereas, I just came along for the ride.

It was my introduction to Jazz (if this is considered to be Jazz), I guess.

Uncomfortable and so fun at the same time. I appreciate them both for coming out to share their talents with me.

I am really trying to stretch my wings with new music adventures.
