The secret of how Russia will ‘invade Ukraine Joe Biden

Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin are set to discuss the crisis today but ahead of that Blinken spoke to Sergei Lavrov.

"I spoke with Foreign Minister Lavrov today to urge a diplomatic resolution to Russia’s unprovoked military build-up around Ukraine," Blinken tweet afterwards.

"I reiterated that further Russian aggression would be met with a resolute, massive, and united Transatlantic response."

But in response Lavrov accused the United States of seeking to provoke a conflict in Ukraine, during a call with his US counterpart Antony Blinken.

Their talks come after U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said Washington believes Putin could strike any day.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Friday that a Russian attack on Ukraine could begin any day now and would likely start with an air assault. As a result, he urged Americans still in Ukraine to leave in the next 24-48 hours.

"Any American in Ukraine should leave as soon as possible. And in any event, in the next 24 to 48 hours. We obviously cannot predict the future. We don't know exactly what is going to happen, but the risk is now high enough and the threat is now immediate enough that this is what prudence demands," Sullivan said.

Sullivan spoke after President Joe Biden held a secure video call with transatlantic leaders from the White House Situation Room and sought allied unity in the face of a worsening situation.

It remains unclear, Sullivan said, whether Vladimir Putin has definitively given an order to start an invasion. He said he expects Biden to seek out a phone call with Putin soon on the crisis.
