Ukranians Flee Kyiv As Bombing Intensifies

Ukrainians awoke Thursday to the terrifying roar of air raid sirens. Many scrambled for shelter underground in the subway system as Russia attacked the country. Olena Gnes was awoken by shelling at 5 a.m. She gathered her children and headed to her neighborhood bomb shelter, where she and her children huddled with neighbors. They sit in silence, stone-faced, uncertain and afraid of what would come next. "I do not feel safe in a bomb shelter with my children," she said.
