Oil and Gas companies typically fall into 3 segments.
Upstream is also known as Exploration and Production or E&P.
Here you will find all the activities related to searching for, recovering and producing crude oil and natural gas.

The services side of the industry has also been considered the upstream. In my view, these specialty companies are the unsung heroes of getting the wells designed, drilled and fracked using best practices to maximize production. Typically, you can find about 20-30 different services companies involved in the finding to drilling and completion of a well.

Of the 3 segments, the upstream can be the highest risk. That is why we own income producing mineral property.
