Baby elephants are born not knowing what their trunk is for. They are often found swinging it, rolling it up and step on it. At 6 - 8 weeks they figure out it's for eating and drinking and at 1 year they gain good control over it.

Mother sloths only have 1 baby at a time, the baby sloth will cling to the mother’s belly for several weeks. The baby with stay with the mother for up to 4 years.

Alpaca babies weigh between 15-18 lbs when born. Although quite rare, an Alpaca mother can give birth to twins.

Baby monkeys are often born a different color from their mother to help identify which monkeys in the community need to be cared for.

Most feline babies are born blind, whether it’s a lion, tiger or domestic kitten. They rely on their sense of smell to find the mother cat to suckle.

Seal mothers give birth to baby seals on an iceberg. The pup will remain on the iceberg for a month until it’s waterproof fur grows in.

Puppies are born without teeth, a sense of sight, smell or hearing. They must stay very close to momma until they start developing their senses.

Baby pandas weight only 0.2 lbs which is 1/900th of the mother’s weight. They are born pink, blind and very weak.

Before chicks are born, they actually breathe inside the egg, through the shell. There are at least 8,000 pores on the surface of the eggshell.

Newborn fawns can stand and nurse within 30 minutes of birth. They are also able to walk within hours.
