Invented by (Key-i-he) Keahi Seymour when he was 12 years old
He’s had numerous iterations of the boot
The current one has a carbon fibre boot with aircraft grade aluminum legs. The bands are made from speargun tubing.
He was originally inspired by fast land animals and how they store energy in their tendons
He thinks of it as the transportation of the future, designed to make humans run faster and jump higher
The boot is modelled off the leg of an ostrich as it’s the fastest bipedal land animal
He can currently run at a top speed of 25 mph / 40 kph. He hopes to increase the speed of his boots up to 45 mph / 72 kph to match the speed of an ostrich.
Usain bolt holds the record for the fastest human on earth at a speed of 27.8 mph / 44.7 kph but can only hold that for short time. Keahi can maintain a speed only slightly slower for a long duration
