First ever commercial delivery by a self driving truck happened on October 20, 2016.
The truck drove 120 miles / 200 km from the Anheuser-Busch facility in Loveland, Colorado to Colorado Springs delivering beer of all things.
The truck travelled with other vehicles on interstate 25, going through denver completely by itself.
Now there was was as driver in the truck the whole time but was not needed for the entire journey. In fact the driver was not in the driver's seat at all for the entire trip.
The truck was developed by Uber owned startup Otto who see a future where computers will be doing the driving for trucks and cars.
Having a driver in trucks will still be expected for deliveries but mostly for dealing with the actual delivery. Having a computer doing the driving should in theory reduce truck accidents dramatically as most truck accidents are caused by fatigue.
