Those of you who have been following me for a while know that several yeas ago I made a documentary about an amazing beach town in Ecuador called Montañita. I actually never shared this documentary on my main YouTube channel. So, I decided to release a re-edited version of this film.

We finished filming this project in 2010, and relesed it in 2013. I put it on my second YouTube channel, in four parts.

Well, this year my brother and I visited Montañita and Ecuador again, which brought back a lot of great memories. We also looked back at the original documentary and decided to do a slight re-edit of it. With the first release, we got some really good constructive criticism regarding the narration. So, we dedided to change the tone of the narrator – to some degree. We also “slimmed” the film down by about two minutes.

So, we are excited to share with you the new version of this documentary and hear what you think.

We shot this documentary with Canon 7D Mark I, a GoPro (a 2009 model) and even a point-and-shoot camera. For sure, the cameras have improved a lot in those seven years. We’ve developed our skills too. It is interesting to think how we would make this documentary nowedays. Perhaps, we’ll undertake a similar project in the near future, to actually see the difference.

"Montañita: Beach Life" - a documentary film

For several decades, Montañita - a beach town in Ecuador - had been a little-heard-of destination known only by surfers and off-the-beaten-path travellers. But whoever passed through it was left with indelible memories. The town has a unique vibe that is palpable as soon as you enter. You see everyone at ease, smiling, eager to make friends and have fun. Whoever you are, wherever you come from - you can't but dive into this vibe and become like one of these chilled beach bums. The place is addictive and that is because happiness is addictive. So a word of warning - do not make firm plans for your return, because most visitors overstay and some never leave.

In the recent years, however, Montañita has experienced a lot of exposure and growth. As is often the case, this development has brought a host of challenges that threaten to destroy the unique character of the town. So a question arises. As Montañita becomes big and successful, will it retain its special vibe? Or will its magic be broken?
