Here is a sum-up of my visit to the 2017 NAB Show. It was a great experience overall.

So NAB 2017 came and went. I had fun meeting lots of people. Lots of fan and also people from the industry. Also I talked at a few panels and explored all the new gear. I wanted to do a quick recap of what I witnessed and what I thought was worth mentioning. As is usually the case, there were a lot of gadgets being shown. Some where new, some where old and some where just strange.

Aside from the more talked about new features that Blackmagic revealed with their update to Davinci Resolve, and the new DJI Ronin 2 gimbals I liked seeing all the new VR tech. Some award winners at NAB was Aputure with their 300d LED Light. Another winner was iFootage with their line of aluminum and carbon fiber monopods. They also unveiled their new motion control kit which challenges Kessler cranes second shooter. It uses a phone app that lets you fully control and program the silent motors to move up and down along the expandable track. This system also features a small but powerful pan and tilt head. I got to play with some of the really expensive gear like the many Car rigs with stabilized camera rigs and cranes and also this cool gyrocopter that qualifies as an ultralight airplane, which means that almost anyone can fly it. It holds 2 passengers. 1 person operates the vehicle and the other controls the 5 axis stabilized Arri Alexa camera through a fully featured remote control.

I got a chance to hang out with the guys behind Atomos as they showed me the next gen of their tech. One great product is the Atomos Ninja Inferno which retails for just $995 and is a great addition to cameras like the Panasonic GH5 because it allows 4K video capture at 60fps. Atomos also unveiled their new field/studio color calibrated 19 inch monitor, called the Sumo.

I also visited other companies which you heard me talked about before such as CAME-TV. They had 2 new gimbals that they revealed with various accessories and a whole set of new Boltzen LED lights.

Lanparte has come up with a new monitor quick release plate that looked real useful and their new camera rig systems that are build around various lens mounts.

SLR Magic released the cheapest anamorphic lenses ever. These are not just adapters like before which required dual focusing of the lens and the adapter but an actual fully functions set of 2X anamorphic lenses.

Even cinegears had new updates to their already great wireless video transmission kits and wireless follow focus setups.

All in all I had lots of fun this year at NAB even thought I haven’t seen anything revolutionary announced. Lets hope next year is even more fun and eventful.
