Detroit Coffee's mission is straightforward: make the best coffee in the world. Our beans are the best, our roasters are the best, and our small batches allow us to control quality and deliver coffee to you at its peak freshness.

Whether Motown or the Motor City, Detroit has always moved us with music and muscle cars. We founded the Detroit Coffee Company in the same spirit. Like a great song or a fast ride, our coffee fuels you throughout the day and into the night.

On your way or where you are, DCC keeps you moving.

We are not sure when it happened. The complexity of our daily coffee routine began spiraling out of control. The simple task of buying a good cup of joe became anything but: amusement park lines, ten-part drinks, and good luck ordering if you forgot your Italian-English dictionary.

Your local supermarket likely provides no respite. Why do you have to learn the attributes of coffee grown in various countries before tentatively purchasing a bag to take home? We are not sure. Why do you have to decipher cryptic names that offer no clues as to what is inside? Ditto. That is why we will never let you feel conflicted about drinking "Costa Rican Vanilla Morning Blend" at night, or "Columbian Nutmeg Fall Harvest Blend" in the winter. We will simply let you know that our coffee is as full and fresh as it can be, and we are willing to bet that is all you care about. If you leave the importing to us, we will leave the drinking to you.

If you do not want to be forced to choose between bland deli coffee and lines that make you late for work, you have come to the right place. The Detroit Coffee Company stands for two things: simplicity and quality. We believe in three kinds of coffee: light, medium, and dark; and three sizes: small, medium, and large. We do not have caramel and we do not have whipped cream. We just have the best coffee in the world.

Narrow Way Café
The Narrow Way Café, located out on Detroit’s Avenue of Fashion, is one coffee shop that you should definitely go out of your way to visit. At Narrow Way Café, you feel like a part of the community, even if you’re only visiting. Fostering community was the goal of this local and minority-owned café, founded by brothers David and Jonathon Merritt. The brothers originally operated out of Straight Gate International Church, before relocating to their current spot in order to connect with the wider Detroit community. The café’s tag line is “a stress free environment” – something that becomes apparent the moment you step inside. The sounds of smooth jazz softly fill the café, which is small but comfortably packed with locals who chat and work at the purple cushioned seats lining one wall. A big front window opens out onto the street, giving the café an airy feel. Narrow Way Café serves up quality coffee thanks to their partnership with Zingerman’s, which roasts three unique blends for them. There is also a tempting and extensive smoothie menu. Customers range from local business owners to remote workers to construction workers, and the barista seemed to know all their names – she even remembered mine when she called goodbye as I left.

Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday closed

Populace Coffee
Populace Coffee is one of Michigan’s most-loved coffee roasters, and a true icon in the state’s third wave coffee movement. Although their headquarters are based in Bay City, Populace Coffee did recently open a small café in the lobby of Siren Hotel in downtown Detroit. As you walk in the hotel’s lobby, you’ll be greeted by an opulent 1920s atmosphere that recalls the days of Detroit’s lavish past. Complete with
