DIY Electric Skateboard

Did you know that there is an electric skateboard diy kit that allows you to customize your own board? On this episode we unveil the faraday motion spine.

The spine is an electric skateboard that is open sourced and community driven.

Created in Copenhagen by Sune Pedersen, this electric skateboard company allows the user to decide what components they want for their board.

The skateboard is modular, upgradable and customizable which is due to the fact that the majority of the skateboard is printed on a 3d printer.

Now if you have all the parts, some basic tech skills are required to put together this skateboard. If you purchase the faraday’s assembly kit, it’ll take around 2 hours to put together the board. The other option is to download and print the pieces yourself which will take around 100 hours for all the 3d printing.

Now lets go over a few of the spec, the faraday is an electric longboard topping out and 19 mph or 30 km/h with a top range of 6 miles or 10 km. It has a charge time of 1 hour which is controlled by the nunchuk or your smartphone. Side thought, using your smartphone will skateboarding.. not the smartest idea. Now if you have a rugged smartphone case you should be ok, the operation is simple tilt your phone forward to increase the speed of the board. While not the greatest idea to skateboard in the rain, the underlid protects against water entering the bottom the skateboard. The battery is located at the back of the motion spine which is held by to rear brackets. The electric skateboard motor is held with a 3rd bracket in the center of the board. There are additional components available as well which allows you to completely customize this skateboard.
