In this video, Joe explains how to add a Linear PD300Z-2 Lamp Dimmer Module to the Honeywell Lyric Controller. This is Z-Wave device with a dimmer function that will allow a user to manage the lighting for a lamp. The Lyric Controller includes a built-in Z-Wave controller for supporting this device.

The Linear PD300Z-2 Lamp Dimmer Module is a simple plug-in device that features two electrical sockets on its sides. In one socket, a lamp is plugged in so that its light can be dimmed or brightened through Z-Wave communication. The other socket is simply a pass-through, and it will let another device receive electrical power as well. The module can be enrolled with the Lyric in the same way as almost any other Z-Wave device. It can be operated from the Lyric Controller itself or through Honeywell's Total Connect 2.0 Interactive Service.

The device is learned in through the automation menu of the Lyric Controller. The first step is to exclude the device from the network. This is done in case the device was learned in with another Z-Wave network previously. Many Z-Wave devices are learned-in with a network for testing purposes before they even leave the factory. The device is excluded from the network by putting the Lyric into its exclusion mode and then pressing the center button on the module twice. The Lyric will acknowledge that the device was excluded.

Next, the device included into the Z-Wave network. This will enroll the device and allow it to be used with the system. The module is enrolled by putting the Lyric into inclusion mode and then pressing the device's center button twice. The Lyric will then display a message saying that the sensor has been learned-in with the system. The user should then test to make sure that the module is functioning properly. This can be done from the Lyric Controller or through Total Connect 2.0.
