Installing and Programming a 5800RP

In this video, Bryce discusses how to use a Honeywell 5800RP Wireless Repeater. This is a device that will repeat the 345 MHz wireless signal that's sent out by a Honeywell 5800 Series Wireless Sensor. By doing this, the range between the sensor and the wireless receiver will be effectively doubled.

Most Honeywell 5800 Series devices have an approximate range of 200 feet. However, this range can be reduced due to the presence of large metal objects and other obstacles. The 5800RP will take the signal sent out by a 5800 Series device and send it out a second time. This will take the approximate 200-foot wireless range and essentially double it to 400 feet. This makes the 5800RP particularly useful for larger properties where signal range may become an issue.

It is important to note that only one 5800RP device can be used for any given sensor. In order words, it is not possible to use a second 5800RP device to send out the 345 MHz signal a third time and achieve a range of 600 feet. Users should also keep in mind that not every 5800 Series device has a range of 200 feet. Some of these devices have a smaller range, and the 5800RP only repeats the signal that is provided. So if the 5800 Series device only has a range of 150 feet, the 5800RP will double it to 300 feet.

The 5800RP receives power from a plug-in transformer much like any standard security panel. It also has a backup battery in case standard electricity is ever lost. The device will activate and start repeating signals by simply being plugged-in. It can also be programmed with a wireless zone on the system so that it receives RF supervision. The panel can then report RF supervision loss.
