Hardwired Zones on a Lyric Security System
In this video, Joe talks about using hardwired zones on a Honeywell Lyric Controller. The system provides support for two hardwired normally closed contacts. The inputs for these sensors are located on the back of the panel next to the power inputs. These inputs will use Zones 1 and 2 on the system.
The terminals labeled "HWZ1" and "HWZ2" are for the hardwired contacts. The contacts will also connect with the ground terminals labeled "GND". Once the sensor is hardwired in, its settings and configurations can be adjusted from within system programming. A sensor connected with "HWZ1" will use Zone 1 on the system, while the hardwired sensor connected with "HWZ2" will use Zone 2.
In order to access system programming, the system's current Installer Code will be needed. Zones 1 and 2 can be edited much in the same manner as any other system zone. However, these zones are differentiated by the fact that they do not have a Serial Number field for learning-in wireless sensors.
Additionally, Zones 1 and 2 are unique because the Device Type for these zones only contains options for "Door" and "Window". In other words, only normally closed contacts can be used with the Lyric Controller System in this manner. Otherwise, configuring a hardwired contact can be completed in mostly the same way as a wireless sensor.
However, a user may want to use more than two hardwired contacts with their system. Or a user might want to use hardwired sensors other than door and window contacts with their Lyric Controller. For these situations, a wired to wireless converter like the Honeywell 5800C2W usually represents the best solution.
The Honeywell 5800C2W features nine inputs for normally closed hardwired sensors. The hardwired sensors will connect directly to the 5800C2W, and the device will send a 345 MHz wireless signal to the Lyric on the behalf of the hardwired sensors. The hardwired sensors can then be learned-in with the Lyric Controller in the same way as a compatible wireless sensor. However, life-safety devices, such as smokes and carbon monoxide detectors, cannot be used with the 5800C2W.
