2GIG GC3: Changing the Installer Code

In this video, Jorge shows users how to change the Installer Code on a 2GIG GC3 Alarm System. The Installer Code for a 2GIG GC3 is needed for accessing programming and for making changes to the system. Keeping the Installer Code at its default does not present any sort of security risk for a system.

The default Installer Code for a 2GIG GC3 System is 1561. Most users will simply leave their system's Installer Code at its default setting, and it is perfectly okay to do so. This is because the Installer Code can only disarm the system if it was the code used to arm it in the first place. If any other code was used to arm the system, then the Installer Code will not be able to disarm.

For that reason, leaving the Installer Code at the default of 1561 does not present any security risk. Even if an intruder knows that the default Installer Code for a 2GIG GC3 is 1561, they will not be able to disarm the system using that code. Additionally, leaving the Installer Code at the default will help prevent the user from being locked out of programming later because of a forgotten code. However, it is very important that the user never uses their Installer Code to arm their system. Instead, the Installer Code should only be used for accessing the programming menus.

But if a user does want to change the Installer Code for their 2GIG GC3, they certainly have the ability to do so, even though it is nor recommended. Changing the Installer Code does require knowing the current Installer Code to access programming. The setting for changing the Installer Code is found within panel programming. The very first programming question involves choosing the Installer Code for the system. After changing the Installer Code, a user must save the change before it will go through.
