5. Growing Foods
Dr. T. C. Singh, the Head of Botany Department at India’s Annamalia University discovered in 1962, that music can increase plant growth. He found that balsam plants grew and additional 20% in height and 72% in biomass when in the presence of music. His initial tests were with classical music, then he moved onto raga music. After all the tests he found the classical violin music to be the most effective and increasing plant growth. During these tests he had dancers perform a traditional Indian barefoot dance called Bharata-Natyam to see if physical music coming from dancers would also increase plant growth. Astonishingly the marigolds that were used in this test bloomed 2 weeks earlier than normal.

4. Boiling Water
92 year old resident of Christchurch, New Zealand, Peter Davey invented a way to boil water with sound. This former spitfire pilot and saxophone player, developed this technology when he noticed different saxophone notes caused different household items to rattle. Peter’s sonic boiler won’t be found on store shelves anytime soon, he is waiting to find a manufacturer that will produce the device for him. Until that happens he won’t tell anyone has it works. In his demonstration you see a cold glass of water boil instantly with virtually no steam released.

3. Healing Wounds
MIST, an ultrasound healing tool was invented to speed up the healing of wounds. How it works is there is a healing gun that spray saline solution with a low frequency ultrasound wave. This ultrasound wave reduces inflammation and bacteria counts on the skin as well as stimulates the cells within the wound. MIST has been shown to be highly effective on leg and foot ulcers with one study showing 69% of ulcers treated over 12 weeks to heal completely. This new technology stirred up so much attention in the medical community that that company that owned MIST was bought out for over 30 million dollars.

2. Levitation
Acoustic levitation became a reality in 2013 when multiple emitters of sound waves were placed on all sides of an object equally then set to emit strong sound waves to lift an object off the ground. The technology has advanced to a point where an object can be moved around in 3d space on command with simply controlling the sound emitters. If you can’t get your head around this idea, just think of a loud subwoofer and the force you feel from it, now direct that force into a much smaller, lighter object and acoustic levitation is born.

1. Curing Cancer
A new technology called High Intensity Focused Ultrasound or HIFU was developed by researchers at Princess Grace Hospital in London about 15 years ago. HIFU can be used to target cancer cells and kills them by heating up the cells with sound waves. In an initial study of 159 men with prostate cancer, HIFU was used to treat this cancer cells and after only one year, 92% of the men didn’t relapse. This simple procedure only takes 5 hours and has been used on over 30,000 patients.
