Backyard Quarry Pool

When it comes to creating a swimming pool, some people are more creative ideas than others. On this episode we unveil the quarry pool.

Joel Goldstein, a quarry owner bought this home solely because the home had an unused quarry onsite which he envisioned to be the perfect swimming pool. Located in Sheffield Massachusetts the property contains 50 acres or 20 hectares of land with a 3500 sq ft or 325 sq meter home. Positioned a short distance from the home was an empty rock quarry measuring 25 x 40 ft or 7 ½ x 12 meters in size. Joel ended up converting the rock quarry into a personal swimming pool that has depths ranging from 3 - 7 feet or 1 - 2 meters.

The pool only took a few months to complete as it just needed some finishing work and places to put the plumbing. Once completed and filled up it uses 15,000 gallons or 57,000 liters of water. 20 cleaning nozzles were also installed to make it as low maintenance as possible. Joel never intents to sell the property and hopes it’ll be passed down from generation to generation.
