General Overview of Honeywell VISTA Programming

In this video, Joe shows users the basics of programming a Honeywell VISTA Security System. In order to do this, an alphanumeric keypad like the Honeywell 6160 is needed. All programming is done through the keypad. The main command for entering programming on a VISTA Panel is [Installer Code] + 800.

Programming can also be accessed by using the backdoor method. This is useful if the user does not have the system's Installer Code. To backdoor the system, power the system completely down, and then power it back on. Immediately after powering it on, press and hold the # and * keys to access programming. Once a user has accessed programming on an alphanumeric keypad, the message "Installer Code 20" will be displayed. However, if just "20" is displayed, then the keypad is a Fixed English keypad, and it should not be used for deeper level programming.

On a Honeywell VISTA System, programming is split up into different fields. Each field is used for configuring different programming settings on the system. A complete list of the programming fields can be found in the VISTA Programming Guide. To access a different programming field, enter in [*] + [2-digit field number]. The user can then continue with programming the field. By entering in [#] + [2-digit field number], a user can also check the current entry for that programming field. Each programming field uses a different set of key commands that can be seen in the VISTA Programming Guide.

To exit programming, a user should press [*99]. The command [*98] can also be used to exit programming. but this will lock the user out of programming later, and they will need to use the backdoor method to get back in. Therefore, we only recommend using the [*99] command to exit programming on a Honeywell VISTA. The keypad will return to the main screen once programming has been exited.
