Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge
North Ireland
Existed for 260 years
Connects the mainland to Carrick-a-Rede island
Originally built by a fisherman in 1755
The bridge is built 100 feet above the ocean
Locals have kept the bridge in good working condition
The bridge originally consisted of a single hand rail which was eventually upgraded to one on both sides
Guided tours of the area are available
Dogs are not allowed on the bridge
Fisherman lay out salmon nets from the island
