On the previous episode I picked out my seeds for planting and made label on popsicle sticks. On this episode I prepare the soil for planting and edge my long garden bed.

As you can see I now have a yard with a fence, some rototilled soil and off camera I unloaded 40 bags of compost and 5 wheelbarrows of dried seaweed that has all been mixed into my dirt

I have 2 main plots for growing in the backyard as well as a long skinny one on the side of the house, an arced one around this brick wall and an L shaped one that wraps around the house.

I first started with the worst plot of them all, this one is full of rocks and really tough ground. I did my best to mix the seaweed, compost and dirty together with this rotary cultivator which is linked below if you’re looking to pick one up.

After everything was all mixed together my neighbour lent me this rock filter to try to clean up the dirt a bit and get the bigger rocks out. This grate works well but it an incredibly grueling process. I removed a bunch of rock from this patch of soil I was standing on but didn’t end up filtering the bottom plot due to exhaustion. You can see here from this footage how rocky this soil is. I struggle to plant this kale just before my fence went up. Further up the property where the soil is much better these strawberries go in the ground quite easily.

I placed these concrete blocks in the ground as stepping stones to easily get in and out of the garden. The next big task was to edge the garden, while not necessary it makes everything look a lot nicer and gives a good solid which help when mowing the lawn. I start by edging this long skinny plot on the side of my house. After 4 backbreaking hours the edge on this 1 plot is complete.

As my day was coming to an end I notice some unhappy former tenants of my yard trying to find a new place to graze. Little did I know just the next day one of these deer would find the 1 and only weak spot in my fence that wasn’t completed yet and proceed to much away on my kale and apple tree.

This concludes this episode on the next one I finally plant the seeds in the ground to be sure to subscribe for the next video. Don’t forget to like this video, leave a comment and have a nice day.
