Power Cycling a Vista Alarm System

A power reset can fix certain issues with the Honeywell VISTA Security Panel, making it a useful troubleshooting tool.

There are many reasons why a user may need to perform a power cycle on their VISTA System. If the system isn't responding or acting normally, a power cycle can be a good first step towards fixing the problem. A Power cycle is also generally useful for fixing any issues with an external communicator. In many cases the panel will work properly following the power cycle.

To perform a power cycle, a user must first power down their system. This is done by unplugging the transformer and disconnecting the backup battery. The transformer connects with terminals 1 and 2 on the system board, but it is usually easier to just unplug the transformer from the wall outlet. If the system is using a Honeywell LT Cable, the user can simply disconnect the barrel connection.

The user will also need to disconnect the backup battery for the system. The backup battery is usually a large black box that is found within the system's metal cabinet. A user can simply disconnect the positive and negative wires to the backup battery to power down the system. A blank screen on the keypad will confirm that the system has been powered down successfully.

The system can be powered back on by plugging the transformer back in and reconnecting the backup battery. The system should power back on as soon as the power has been restored. After powering the system back on, the user should make sure that any errors or problems that the VISTA System was experiencing are no longer present.
